Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
From the days, over three decades ago(!), when Wayne Gretzky had hockey observers’ jaws dropping with his mind-boggling scoring feats, (he had scored 92 goals and racked up his first of four 200-point seasons the previous campaign!), comes this wax box from 1982-83 and featuring The Great One in action. Kids' jaws were moving too back in the day, chewing O-Pee-Chee gum while checking out trading cards, but no youngsters’ hands ever got to the 48 packs here. The box itself exhibits light wear at the corners, the bottom and the bottom edges, while the piece of tape originally holding the box shut appears to have been slit. Various Gretzky cards, along with high grade rookie cards of Grant Fuhr, Ron Francis and Dale Hawerchuk highlight the possible pack pulls, with a Baseball Card Exchange-identifying label appearing on the company’s shrink wrap which now seals the…luscious jackpot.
