Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017

Despite a record that garnered a third place finish during the 1937-38 regular season, the Chicago Black Hawks, led by Paul Thompson, first vanquished the Montreal Canadiens and then the New York Americans for a final Stanley Cup showdown with Toronto. The Leafs, Canadian Division champions during the regular season, would fall to the Black Hawks in 4 games, giving Chicago their second world championship in franchise history. We have an impressive relic from that early monumental victory, with a banner that hung in Chicago Stadium that celebrated the 1938 Cup win. At a mammoth 7 feet wide (at the far left side) and thinning as you descend the 18 foot length, the thin canvas banner features inserted white canvas letters that proclaim “Stanley Cup 1938”. Some small holes are present along with a few minor tattered/torn edges, but overall, the antique banner displays beautifully. The ultimate Black Hawks Stadium relic, an included LOA from our consignor mentions how the banner was acquired from a Chicago Stadium employee.
