Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
First icing a team in 1895 - an early date for any American squad, the University of Buffalo were champions of the Buffalo Hockey Association in 1900, with the school then seeing periods of disinterest in the sport through the teens until a revival within the program in the early 1920s. We have an attractive large-format photograph of the 1903-04 U of B club. 8 team members are pictured along with the centrally placed manager, with impressive high-collar sweaters detailed. Each is listed below on the matte backing, with “03 UB 04” directly beneath. Providing exceptional clarity, the photo does exhibit scuffing in a few spots along with staining to the matte. The obvious flaw is the small section along the lower right that has become detached, with reattachment possibly if so desired by the winning bidder. Framed to full dimensions of roughly 12” x 15”, the rare image harkens back to the early formative days of hockey in Buffalo.
