Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
This rare 11” x 15” studio photo montage of the 1904 American Soo Hockey Team was produced by the Young Studio of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This original studio print is made up of 12 individual photos, including one of each of the team’s nine players. The 1903-04 Soo Michigan team was the precursor to the team that one year later became part of the International Professional Hockey League, the first professional hockey league. The edition of the American Soo team pictured here was banished by the Ontario Hockey Association from competing against Canadian amateur teams after they played against a professional team from Houghton, who they joined the following season in the new IPHL. This original composite photograph has a small tear in the lower right corner with some surface wear and creasing, along with some toning to the images themselves.
