Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
With over 3 million subscribers, Sports Illustrated is the world’s foremost sport magazine, originally issued in the summer of 1954. We have a collection of four here, including a pair of inaugural issues, with one example still containing the elusive baseball card insert. The other two issues available include the first anniversary issue from August of 1955 along with a copy for the second anniversary in 1956. The first issue with the included paper cards remains tightly bound, with some corner wear including a few creases along the bottom and upper right corners. The inserted cards remain in beautiful condition, with a number of the magazine’s pages having dog-eared corners. The second first issue no longer has the cards present, and it suffers from a few cover tears, along with additional tearing along the top of the spine. The first anniversary issue has cover tears along with a section of loss, with this continuing through the first few pages. A few additional tears are present along the interior, with a few pages folded over as well, with the remnants of a mailing label present. The second anniversary issue remains in pleasing condition with expected handling wear, with a mailing label removed along the bottom left.
