Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Still awaiting their first World Series jaunt, the Seattle Mariners began play in the American League in 1977, with the club on the eve of celebrating their 40th anniversary. We have a pair of game-worn Mariners jerseys hailing from 1981, with a home example worn by Richie Zisk, along with a road jersey donned by Jim Maler. The Maler jersey features Wilson collar tagging along with a date swatch of “35 81”, while the Zisk example exhibits Rawlings labeling on the lower front along with “Set 1 1981” and “2 inch extra length” tags. Both are styled with tri-layer tackle twill team crests across the chest, with “Seattle” on the Maler jersey, “Mariners” on the Zisk example, with matching-style front and verso numbers.
The Maler jersey exhibits some light pilling in spots, along with some loose threading to the verso numbers. The Zisk jersey shows a few small random stains, including examples just over the reverse numbers. We should also note evidence of a former nameplate that was much longer.
