Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Termed the world's best all-around player by Soviet national team coach Viktor Tikhonov, Bob Gainey brought many elements to the Montreal Canadiens during his 16-year NHL career. We have a Canadiens captain’s jersey donned by the HOFer during the late-1980s at the close of his fabulous career. Maska Ultrafil tagging sits along the collar, with a full-colour embroidered CCM crest over the back bottom hem. Styled with the forever classic Habs “CH” team crest full administered in layered tackle twill, the white V-neck has been accented with dual-colour sleeve and verso numbers along with the captain’s “C” in matching material. Worn circa 1987-89, Gainey is a four-time Frank J. Selke Trophy winner, and he spent his entire career with the Canadiens. A Classic LOA will accompany.
The wonderful garment shows great use, with numerous marks present along with paint transfer over each sleeve. Two dozen team repairs are also present, with the majority placed over the sleeves. We should also note some light staining/discolouration over the reverse of the lower hem.
