Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
A product of St. Lawrence University, netminder Les Kuntar was drafted by Montreal in 1987, with just six games played in the NHL with the Habs in 1993-94. We have a goalie mask worn by the New York native during his time with the Hershey Bears in the AHL in the mid-1990s, circa 1995-96. Produced by Ed Cubberly with his trademark “C” cut within each side of the mask, the original interior padding and strapping remains intact, with a manufacturer’s label along the interior behind the left ear. Featuring an attractive Bear motif mirrored on each side in Hershey colours over a light grey background, there is some minor soiling to the interior including rusting to some clasps, with numerous chips, scratches and surface abrasions present. A faint signature from Cubberly is also visible behind the right ear.
An included 1995-96 Collector's Edge Ice The Wall #TW9 Les Kuntar hockey card pictures the netminder wearing this mask, with a chip showing over the chin, but this image is not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match.
