Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Lord Byng was the Governor General of Canada when his wife donated the first version of the trophy that still bears her name to the National Hockey League in 1925. He and Lady Byng were enthusiastic hockey fans who regularly attended Ottawa Senators home games in the 1920s. Lord Byng led the Canadian Corps in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917, widely considered a turning point in the First World War. Offered is a Lord Byng signed cut that measures 3” x 5” on paper stock and comes with a COA. “Byng of Vimy” and “General” are handwritten and each underlined in his magnificent black fountain pen ink penmanship. A Lord Byng signature is a must-have for any serious hockey autograph collection.
