Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Known as “Big Bird,” Larry Robinson is one of the most decorated defensemen in NHL history. A
dominant force on the blue line, Robinson was known for his rare combination of size, strength,
and skating ability. He won six Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens, including being a part
of the core group that brought four straight championships to Montreal in the 70s. A two-time
winner of the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman, Robinson retired with an incredible
career plus-minus rating of +722 — the highest in NHL history. His leadership and poise under
pressure made him one of the most respected figures in the game’s history.
This Easton HXC 6000 aluminum two-piece stick shows clear signs of use throughout the shaft
and blade. “ROBINSON” is stamped on the bare wooden blade. The stick still holds Robinson’s
original tape job at the knob and the blade is signed in bold black marker alongside the
inscription “To Lou, Best Regards.” Toward the bottom of the shaft, “ROBINSON” is written in
black marker. On the blade, “6-5-95 EAST CONF FINALS” is written in black marker, dating the
stick to Game 1 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Finals. This was Robinson’s second season
coaching in the NHL as an assistant with the New Jersey Devils. He would go on to coach for
several seasons, eventually leading the Devils to a Stanley Cup as head coach in 2000. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972—a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community
