Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Originally drafted 65th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Kris Letang has spent his entire National Hockey League career with the franchise that first called out his name, suiting up in nearly 1100 games over the course of 18-years as of this writing. A three-time Stanley Cup champion (2009, 2016 and 2017) who has also represented Canada internationally, winning back-to-back gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in 2006 and 2007, offered here is this Penguins jersey donned by Letang during the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals against the Detroit Red Wings. Made by Reebok, a lone size "56" label is affixed to the inner collar while the logo patches of both the NHL and Reebok adorn the front and reverse necklines respectively. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Penguins team crest that features embroidered details throughout, the all-important 2008 Stanley Cup Finals patch is in place over the right breast. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Letang's number "58" in dual layer tackle twill numerals, "Letang" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Signed by Penguins equipment manager Dana Heinze in black marker ink over the fight strap on the interior, which has had a "2007-2008 Stanley Cup Finals" patch sewn over top of it, the jersey shows game-wear including board burns over both sleeves and dark stick marks over the right sleeve. Also showing a deep board burn near the right shoulder and a small spot stain over the reverse hem, the jersey has been photo-matched with Getty Image #81240083 (May 26th, 2008 vs Detroit - Stanley Cup Finals Game 2) to the loose black threads off the right side of the "A" in Letang as as well as the loose black thread coming off the bottom right of the "L". Of note, there is some spot staining seen throughout the piece, which is accompanied by a Penguins COA.
