Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Francis "King" Clancy was a tremendous competitor whose lifelong association with the game and consistent effort and rapport with the fans lasted throughout his career as a player, referee, coach, and executive. Playing in 16 NHL seasons with the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs, Clancy was an integral part of three Stanley Cup Championship teams in 1924, 1927 and 1932. These battered boots and blades were worn by Francis "King" Clancy during his playing days. The ancient CCM Special Handmade nickel blades show at least a full season's worth of nicks and game wear and the leather uppers are also well-worn and battle-scarred. Custom stitching and repair work at the inside ankles suggests Clancy favored this particular pair. History shows that Clancy was tough, fast and would not back down, not unlike this charming pair of skates. From the personal collection and estate of King Clancy, obtained directly from his family with their letter of provenance.
