Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Drafted by the New York Rangers in 1969, Kevin Morrison starred for a number of teams in the AHL, EHL and CHL before signing with the WHA's New York Golden Blades in 1973. Taking part in what Don Cherry called one of the greatest fights in hockey history in 1972-73 against J. Bob Kelly, Morrison also recorded the only assist on Wayne Gretzky's first professional goal on October 20, 1978, against Edmonton Oilers goalie Dave Dryden. We offer Morrison's Golden Blades contract for 1973-74 to 1977-78, and, as the team only lasted one season due to poor attendance, it should be noted that any and all items pertaining to the club are quite scarce. A fold-over affair dated "August 14, 1973", the contract lists "Kevin Morrison" along with the seasons 1973-74 to 1977-78 with a total contract amount for the five years of $195,000.00 (approx $1,404,522.64 in 2025 dollars). Morrison and a Golden Blades representative have signed, along with Gary L. Davidson - league co-founder, the first president of the World Hockey Association, and an inaugural inductee into the WHA HOF in 2010. Just light handling wear is present along with staples at the top and bottom, with a few small creases and an edge tear.
