Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
A four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Edmonton Oilers, Kevin McClelland’s NHL journey saw him first don the jersey of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first two and a half years of his National Hockey League career with this Penguins jersey worn by him during the 1982-83 campaign. A rare and highly sought after set 1 example made by General Athletic of an all-mesh construction, only a small “XL” size tag in found affixed to the inner collar while the front of the black, white and gold garment is decorated with the familiar Penguins crest in layered tackle twill. The sleeves and verso have been accented with Kevin’s number “18” in dual layer gold-over-white tackle twill numerals while a mesh nameplate with “McClelland” in screened-on gold letters is found across the upper back with some portions of the nameplate having been re-attached at some point with black threading (jerseys from this incredibly rare set are usually found sans nameplate). Sporting a custom added fight-strap on the interior that has been sewn on through the reverse number “1”, numerous visible scratches are seen over the back numbers, especially on the aforementioned number “1”. Worn for a total of ten (10) games, evidence of game-use remains on the lighter side with 6-8 small stick marks observed over the body (both front and reverse),both sleeves and left shoulder along with some puckering to the crest and numbers from multiple washings. Additionally, two small dime-sized areas of rubber cement residue are present on the outer cuffs while around ten (10) team repairs/reinforcements are observed over the team crests on the front as well.
