Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
The seventh (7th) overall pick of the Chicago Black Hawks at the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and a Memorial Cup champion with the Portland Winterhawks in 1983, Ken Yaremchuk would go on to play a total of 235 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career, donning the colours of Chicago as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs before continuing on to play professionally overseas in Switzerland for many years. Offered here, we present this Maple Leafs jersey worn by Yaremchuk during his sixteen (16) game stint with the club in 1987-88. Made by CCM and void of any tagging affixed to the inner collar, the position of its former placement as well as the red, white and blue coloured CCM logo that is embroidered into the reverse hem indicated that the jersey originated from an earlier set that was unworn. Measuring out to roughly a size "50" and decorated over the front with a Maple Leafs team crest that has had "Toronto Maple Leafs" embroidered into it, matching alternate logo crests have been placed atop of both shoulders. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Yaremchuk's number "15" in single layer tackle twill numerals, "Yaremchuk" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Of note, evidence of a former nameplate can be seen under the current one with research showing that number "15" was worn by Derek Laxdall as well during the year. Featuring a customized fight strap and light pilling on the interior, the jersey shows battle scars through team repairs and coloured board paint transfers over both sleeves, light stick marks over the lower front, an unrepaired hole on the inside of the left forearm, light board burns over both sleeves and minor spot stains throughout.
