Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Developed in the Jokerit system in his native Finland, Kari Lehtonen would be drafted 2nd overall at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers and go on to play a total of 649 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Atlanta and Dallas. Also suiting up in the blue and white colours of the Finnish National Team on numerous occasions, offered here is this Team Finland jersey worn by Lehtonen against the Norway on February 14th, 2014 at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in which Finland won a bronze medal. Made by Nike, a "swoosh" logo and a size "58" designation are screened to the inner collar along with a matching "Made in Canada" notation and an "IIHF Authentic Collection" label that has been sewn in, which has had a label reading "G" attached underneath it to denote it as a goalie cut example. Sporting a 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics logo patch over the reverse hem and modelled after Finland's flag, with the blue cross gracing a white background over the front, a Finland coat of arms patch has been heat-pressed over the left breast while the ghostly outline of the country's lion is seen over the left shoulder. Displaying "Suomi" via heat-pressed letters inside the stripes of both sleeves, the aforementioned sleeves and verso and verso have had Lehtonen's number "32" sewn to them in either single layer or dual layer tackle twill numerals while "Lehtonen " is spelt out in single layer blue twill letters that have been heat-pressed across the affixed matching nameplate on the upper reverse. Featuring a Nike Team Sports barcode and fight strap on the interior, the jersey exhibits excellent game-wear throughout including puck marks over the front and both sleeves as well as small red post paint transfer marks over both sleeves as well. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #469387871 (February 14th, 2014 vs Norway - 2014 Olympic Games Preliminary Round) to the now partially washed out puck marks seen over the left breast area.
