Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
It’s a long road from the hockey town of Karlstad, Sweden, to the bright lights of the Air Canada
Centre—but Jonas Frögren found a way to make the trip. A fierce and physical blueliner,
Frögren earned his reputation playing for Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elite League (SEL), one
of the world's top professional hockey leagues. Year after year, he anchored their back end with
toughness and reliability, the kind of old-school defensive game that doesn’t always get the
spotlight, but wins games. After being selected in the 8th round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by
the Calgary Flames, it would take a full decade of proving himself overseas before his NHL
chance arrived.
This Reebok-made size "58" jersey was worn by Frögren during the 2008–09 NHL season and is
accompanied by a team LOA. The jersey was worn in four games and most notably on
January 21, 2009, during the “Ace Bailey Tribute Night” against the Boston Bruins at the Air
Canada Centre. The “ACE” patch, commemorating Irvine “Ace” Bailey; the first professional
athlete to have his jersey number retired. The jersey features the NHL crest on the front
neckline and the Reebok logo on the back neckline. Maple Leaf patches adorn both shoulders,
and the number "24" is present on both sleeves and the back in single blue twill. “FROGREN” is
stitched in blue twill on a white nameplate on the back. Inside, a fight strap is securely affixed,
and a MeiGray patch numbered "F02229" is sewn into the hem, indicating its registration in the MeiGray Game-Worn
Jersey Authentication Program.
Game wear is evident, with several stick and puck marks on the front, as well as board burns
near the cuff and elbow of the left sleeve.
