In 1979 the rebel WHA league merged with the NHL adding four clubs to the more established and dominant league, ushering in a new era of previously unseen prosperity. This WHA ring was presented to Johnny Wilson for his past involvement in the WHA, and rings were only given to a limited number of executives and personnel. Weighing 23 grams and a size 9 ½”, “Jonsil 10K” has been stamped onto the inside band. The ring features a red set stone centralized over “WHA”, it’s surrounded by a laurel wreath and matching hockey sticks, all encompassed by “World Hockey Association”. The left shank features raised WHA logo with generic player, while the right has embossed “Wilson” above placed in a scroll, with a coat of arms style shield below. Comes with an LOA from the Wilson family plus a Classic Auctions LOA.
Johnny Wilson coached the Michigan Stags/Baltimore Blades in 1974-75, he coached the Cleveland Crusaders in 1975-76, and he also coached in the AHL and NHL. This WHA ring was presented to Wilson in commemoration of the WHA/NHL merger. The ring shows wear from use including the regular expected small scratches inside, and on the bottom section of the band, but the ring is in otherwise excellent condition with no damage or notches to its surface to report.
