The 1953-54 Detroit Red Wings had plenty to celebrate after capping a sixth straight Prince of Wales Trophy regular season with their third Stanley Cup win in five seasons. This silver-plated serving dish was presented to the late Johnny Wilson to commemorate the Red Wings forward’s contributions to both titles. “National Hockey League Champions and Stanley Cup Winners 1953-1954 Detroit Hockey Club Inc. John Wilson” is engraved inside the lid of the serving dish, which is 9 1/2" x 7 1/4" and stands about 5 1/2" tall with the lid in place. Magnificent and wonderfully preserved Red Wings championship memento has “International Silver Co.” and other markings on the back of the dish. Comes with an LOA from the Wilson family plus a Classic Auctions LOA.
The lidded dish has various surface scratches, mostly at the bottom of the dish, and remains a spectacular display piece commemorating one of the great Red Wings teams of the 1950s featuring the likes of Howe, Sawchuk, Lindsay, Kelly and Pronovost.
Wilson, the NHL’s first Iron Man, was an integral part of the Red Wings Stanley Cup dynasty of the 1950s. He won the Cup in 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955, scored 161 goals and 171 assists during his career, and was named to the All-Star Game in 1954 and 1956. One of his most notable accomplishments was playing in 580 consecutive games between 1951 and 1960.
