The late Johnny Wilson was the NHL’s original Iron Man and an integral part of the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup dynasty of the 1950s. Wilson won the Cup four times with the Winged Wheel on his chest and set an NHL record, since broken, by playing in 580 consecutive regular season games from 1951 to 1961. On his way to the NHL, Wilson won this Quebec Amateur Hockey Association pendant for the Juvenile Provincial Championship while playing for Shawinigan Tech in 1946-47. The pendant is 1 1/2" tall with the QAHA logo in full color on the front and “ST1” below that, and “Juv. Prov. Champ. 1946-47” engraved on the back, which has “Birks” stamped at the bottom. Wilson remained in hockey as a coach after his playing career, and he received the Los Angeles Forum ice bucket included here from L.A. Kings owner Jack Kent Cooke for his work for the expansion franchise through its first few seasons. Wilson coached the Springfield Kings of the American Hockey League from 1967-68 into a third season, where he was called up to coach L.A. on an interim basis to close out the 1969-70 campaign. He returned to Springfield the following season and guided the AHL Kings to the Calder Cup. Wilson’s silver-plated lidded ice bucket has a raised image of the façade of the Forum on one side with “Jack Kent Cooke 1968” elegantly engraved beneath it. The bucket stands 7 1/2" tall with the lid removed, and about 10 1/2" when topped with the lid. Ringed handles loop through the mouths of lions’ heads on each side and there is a hallmark on the bottom of the base. Very nicely preserved with surface scratches mostly on the lid. Comes with an LOA from the Wilson family and a Classic Auctions LOA.
