Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
The first (1st) overall pick of the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft, John Tavares would spend the first nine (9) years of his NHL career with the New York Islanders on Long Island before coming home north of the border to join his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, for the 2018-19 season of play. Having worn the distinguished captain's "C" for Toronto from 2019 to 2024, serving as the 25th captain in franchise history, Tavares reached the 1000 point plateau for his career on December 11th, 2023 against his old team, the Islanders, becoming only the 98th player in NHL history to reach the mark. Offered here, we present this pair of gloves worn by Tavares during the 2023-24 season. CCM made "Pro" model gauntlets in Toronto's familiar blue and white colourway with "Maple Leafs" identifiers in white over both cuffs, Tavares' personal "JT91" logo is embroidered into the upper thumb of both gloves while "CCM" appears over the wrists. Having had "12" penned in black marker ink over the cuff of each glove, the pair shows wear via small stick marks, sweat staining, rubbing/abrasions and small tears/rips over each as well as rubbing in each palm that is heaviest in the right one. Accompanied by a Maple Leafs LOA, the gloves are photo-matched with Getty Image #2107862061 (March 26th, 2024 vs New Jersey) to the placement of the "12" on the left wrist and to the small tear revealing the orange plastic underneath between the thumb and pointer finger.
