Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A veteran of sixteen (16) National Hockey League seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins, John LeClair, a product of the University of Vermont who would be drafted 33rd overall at the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens, would win a Stanley Cup in 1993 with Montreal and suit up in a total of five (5) All-Star Game's. Inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2009, offered here is this Canadiens jersey worn by LeClair circa 1994, during either the 1993-94 or 1994-95 seasons. Made by CCM, both Maska Ultrafil and size "56" labels are affixed to the inner collar while the emblems of both CCM and the NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with Montreal's famed "CH" team crest that has been administered in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have been styled with LeClair's number "17" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals. Having had "LeClair" spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse, it is worth pointing out that the original nameplate was stripped off the jersey by the team and a new one was made up by the Canadiens customizer of the time but was reattached to far to the right, leaving the outline of the original placement visible to the left of the first "L". Additionally, research also shows that the original placement matches up well with other LeClair Montreal examples that have come to market and that players that wore the number "17" with Montreal in this jersey style after John was traded to Philadelphia wore a different size. Retaining its original fight strap on the interior, the jersey exhibits good game-wear via board burns, unrepaired holes and stick marks over both sleeves while the front and reverse show light stick marks and board burns as well. Additionally, the interior sports good pilling in both sleeves plus behind the front crest and around the collar.
