Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A two-time All-American with Cornell, Joe Nieuwendyk was presented with the Calder Memorial for his remarkable rookie season in 1987-88, where he scored 92 points in 72 games. The Oshawa native would win Stanley Cup championships with three different clubs, and earn enshrinement in the Hall of Fame. Hailing from the 1991-92 season in which he posted 56 points in 69 games played, offered here is this Calgary Flames jersey worn by Nieuwendyk. Made by CCM, size "50" and Maska Air-Knit labels are affixed to the inner collar while the logos of both CCM and the NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Flames team crest that has been administered in a tri-layer flight satin twill style, the distinguished captain's "C" has been added on over the left breast (some seams have popped at the left side causing some separation) while the NHL's 75th anniversary patch that was worn by all the league's teams throughout the season has been placed over the right breast. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Nieuwendyk's number "25" in dual layer red-over-yellow flight satin numerals, "Nieuwendyk" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, which shows rusting and salting to the snaps and pilling throughout the strap itself, the jersey shows game-wear via stick marks throughout the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as light board burns and small unrepaired cuts/holes over both sleeves. Also sporting a white board paint transfer through the "5" on the left sleeve, good pilling at both elbows on the interior and spot staining throughout as well as sweat staining and discoloration from use, a COA will accompany the piece.
