Team Canada 1972 was a clear-cut choice as Canada’s “Team of the Century” in a poll conducted by the Canadian Press. This substantial trophy was presented to Team Canada 1972 defenseman Jocelyn Guevremont to commemorate the November 2000 unveiling of the historic monument dedicated to the team at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Attractive and substantial marble-base award stands 13 1/2” tall and features English and French plaques on either side of the award, which was presented by the Royal Canadian Mint. Silver-coloured maple leaf atop the heavy marble base has the Mint’s commemorative 25th anniversary silver dollar set in the middle. Jocelyn Guevremont’s signed LOA accompanies this spectacular and seldom-seen trophy.
The trophy remains in wonderful condition. “Team of the Century, Award presented by the Royal Canadian Mint to: Jocelyn Guevremont - #37, In commemoration of the official unveiling on November 10, 2000 at the Hockey Hall of Fame, BCE Place, Toronto, of the historic monument dedicated to Team Canada 1972 – ‘Canada’s Team of the Century’ as designated by the Canadian Press,” reads the English plaque on one side with the Royal Canadian Mint logo at the bottom. The silver maple leaf atop the award moves slightly, which in no way diminishes this historic award’s display value.
