Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Intriguing 1980 A.F.A. Champions ring was presented to a member of the West Virginia Rockets of the American Football Association. The Rockets made their debut in 1980 in the AFA, which existed from 1977-83 and was run as a minor league that was not in competition with the NFL, unlike the World Football League of the 1970s and the USFL of the 1980s. West Virginia defeated the Carolina Chargers 42-18 in American Bowl III, the AFA’s championship game, for the first of consecutive AFA titles for the Rockets. Offensive guard Jim Schultz received this size 12 ring that weighs approximately 26 grams and displays a blue stone set in the tableau. “Argentus" (a unique blend of silver and palladium metals) is stamped on the inner band. Schultz’s name is displayed on one shank with the other shank displaying the score of their American Bowl win. The ring remains in lovely condition and it is a great representation of the passion for grassroots football.
