Playing his junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Brantford Alexanders, Hamilton Steelhawks and Belleville Bulls, recording 132 points in 62 games played during his final season in the league, Jason Lafreniere, who had been drafted 36th overall by the Quebec Nordiques at the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, would play a total of 56 games in the National Hockey League during his rookie season, recording a respectable 28 points in the process. Also recording 6 points in 12 playoff games that first year, offered here is this Quebec Nordiques jersey donned by Lafreniere during his rookie season of 1986-87 that has been conclusively photo-matched! First seeing use the year prior in 1985-86 when it was worn by Jean-Francois Sauve, research and viewing of archival footage indicates that the jersey was likely a late regular season and/or playoffs offering as it is not the jersey that was worn by Sauve in the first part of the season. A CCM made offering that sports partially detached brand and "born-on" date tagging (reading "85 10" - October 1985) affixed to the inner collar, the handwritten size in blue ballpoint pen ink has long since faded away but a quick check shows the jersey measures out to roughly a size "52". Having had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Nordiques team crest in layered tackle twill that also features embroidered details. Displaying the all-important Rendez-Vous '87 patch over the upper part of the right sleeve, added by the team late in the 1985-86 season and remaining there throughout the duration of the 1986-87 season, the sleeves and verso of the jersey have been accented with Sauve's/Lafreniere's number "15" in single layer blue vinyl numbers while "Lafreniere" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Of note, the outline of the former Sauve nameplate can easily be seen on the interior. Also displaying blue vinyl Fleur-de-lis across the lower front and reverse plus both shoulders, the vinyl details throughout display with heavy cracking/flaking, something that is common with Nordiques jerseys of this era. Also showing heavy game-wear from multiple seasons of use via numerous stick marks throughout, additional wear is seen via lots of board burns and coloured board paint transfers over both sleeves, a pair of unrepaired holes over the front, discolouring/staining/soiling throughout that is heaviest over the sleeves and around the collar and finally, pilling on the interior. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched to the image of Lafreniere seen in the Nordiques 1986-87 yearbook that shows many of the large stick marks over the front. An LOA will accompany the piece.
