Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Hockey's modern iron man, Jaromir Jagr matched the once-thought unmatchable career of Mr. Hockey himself, Gordie Howe. As of this writing, Jagr has played in 2,214 professional hockey games, while Howe saw action in 2,186 games. Widely considered one of the greatest of all-time as he currently sits in second spot for all-time points behind just Wayne Gretzky, Jagr has won a staggering five Art Ross trophies, three Lester B. Pearson's, the Hart Memorial and Bill Masterton, along with a pair of Stanley Cup championships.
From the height of his career with Pittsburgh in the late-1990s, we offer a photo-matched captain's jersey worn by the Czech superstar in the Art Ross-winning seasons of 1997-98 and 1998-99. Labeling from Starter along with a “54-R” swatch sit affixed to the collar with "68" and "C" handwritten, with embroidered NHL and Starter crests over the back bottom hem. Styled with an attractive and textured Pens team crest, the black mesh V-neck has been accented with "68" in tri-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with "Jagr" across the nameplate in single white twill. The captain's "C" is sewn to the left breast.
Regarding condition, a few stick marks are present on the team crest, with puck marks, scrapes, burns and paint transfer marks to the sleeves. There is also a good amount of pilling to the interior armpit sections of each sleeve and behind the team crest. We should note that this Set #2 jersey was worn by Jagr during the 1997-98 season as mentioned, and sported the alternate's "A", with this particular set of jerseys recycled by the club and worn again including by Jagr during the 1998-99 NHL season, this time with the captain's "C" that is currently on the jersey. Getty Image #72502970 (Nov 6, 1998) has been matched to the long black diagonal mark on the team crest, while Getty Image #394601 (Nov 28, 1998) has been matched to the long black diagonal mark on the team crest, and to a number of black marks on the lower right sleeve. Additionally, Getty Image #394607, also from Nov 28, 1998 has been matched to the black mark located on the lower right sleeve at the junction of the yellow and white stripes. A few laminated photos of additional matches will accompany, along with a laminated Penguins LOA and MeiGray COR.
