Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
The record holder for most games played for the New York Rangers with 1,160, Harry Howell spent 17 seasons with the Blueshirts, and also played with the Los Angeles Kings before completing his HOF career with a trio of seasons in the WHA. Upon his retirement in 1976, Howell had played more NHL games than any other defenseman in history. This trophy was awarded to the 1967 James Norris winner for his milestone of 1,411 career games, and it is accompanied by his 1964-65 "Player's Player Award" plaque. The milestone trophy is a quartz obelisk sitting over a dark base at approx 12" in height. An NHL shield crest with "Milestone Award" appears on the obelisk, with a re-glued plaque over the base featuring the engraved text of "To Harry Howell in recognition of the Milestone achievement 1411 games". The 1964-65 plaque is 7" x 9" with a finished and tiered wooden base, with the engraved gold plate listing the particulars including the year, "To Harry Howell", and "was awarded this plaque by the votes of his fellow players on his team". The milestone trophy displays brilliantly with no issues, with a few scratches and a bit of staining to the 1964-65 plaque.
