Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019, Guy Carbonneau was one of the NHL’s premiere defensive forwards throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with the Frank J. Selke Trophy awarded to the Sept-Îles native in 1988, 1989, and 1992. Serving as the captain of the Canadiens captain from 1989-90 through the 1993-94 NHL season, leading them to a Cup in 1993 to go along with the first one that he helped Montreal to in 1986, Guy would add a third Stanley Cup championship to his resume in 1999 as a member of the Dallas Stars. A veteran of 1318 National Hockey League contests over the course of 19-years in the league, thirteen (13) of which were with Montreal, offered here is this Canadiens jersey worn by Carbonneau during the 1990-91 season in which he posted forty-four (44) points in seventy-eight (78) games played. Made by CCM and still sporting a washed out Maska Ultrafil label affixed to the inner collar, the once penned size notation is long gone from multiple washings and age but the jersey measures out to roughly a size "52" for its effort. Having had both the CCM and NHL shield emblems embroidered into the reverse hem, the jersey retains its fight strap on the interior (some salting present) while the front has been decorated with Montreal's famed "CH" logo in layered tackle twill. Accented over the left breast with the distinguished captain's "C", the sleeves and verso have been styled with Carbonneau's number "21" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals while "Carbonneau" has been spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Displaying with excellent game-wear throughout its entirety, dark stick marks are present over the front, reverse and both sleeves while no fewer than nine (9) team repairs are found spread throughout the sleeves (three on the right and six on the left). With additional wear found via numerous board burns over both sleeves as well as the odd coloured board paint transfer, the ends of both sleeves show good pilling and there is heavy pilling throughout the interior as well. Finally, a large faded signature penned by Carbonneau in black marker ink appears alongside the captain's "C" on the front that is worth noting for accuracy. The jersey is photo-matched to an included digital image from the 1990-91 season which shows the matching placement of the team's crest, the matching placement and particular shape of the captain's "C" and to the small anomaly in the blue material on the lower front collar.
