Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A product of the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights who would go on to be selected 22nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Greg Smyth would go on to play a total of 228 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Philadelphia, Quebec, Calgary, Florida, Toronto and Chicago. Offered here, we present this Quebec Nordiques jersey worn by Smyth during the 1990-91 season. Made by CCM and sporting a lone Maska Ultrafil label affixed to the inner collar, a faint size "56" designation appears over the label in blue ballpoint pen ink while both the CCM and NHL logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Nordiques team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Smyth's number "2" in single layer white vinyl numbers while "Smyth" has been spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Also displaying white vinyl Fleur-de-lis across the lower front and reverse plus both shoulders, the vinyl details throughout display with some cracking/flaking, something that is common with Nordiques jerseys of this era. Of note, Smyth only played one (1) game during the 1990-91 season and based on the amount of wear the jersey shows it is possible that it was recycled into the next season's pre-season campaign as well. Showing good wear, stick marks appear over the front and both sleeves while the sleeves also show board burns as well. Retaining its fight strap on the interior and showing spot staining throughout, there are some pinholes in the right sleeve that are worth mentioning for accuracy as well as some light pilling on the interior, a small tear at the bottom of the collar and sweat/spot staining around the collar as well.
