Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Renowned for his pivotal role on the Edmonton Oilers’ dynasty during the 1980s, Grant Fuhr is
one of the game’s most iconic goaltenders. His exceptional reflexes earned him the Vezina
Trophy in 1987-88 and a well-deserved induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. In the
1995-96 season, Fuhr set an NHL record by playing in 79 games, including an unprecedented
76 consecutive appearances, a record that is basically unbreakable.
Here we have an artifact from Fuhr’s record breaking season. The Christian stick shows clear
signs of game use throughout its structure, with Fuhr’s original tape job still intact on the knob and blade with “FUHR”
appearing in the namebar on the shaft. His bold signature in black marker is prominently placed
on the toe of the taped blade. On the backside of the shaft, a handwritten notation in black
sharpie reads: “Flyers 4 St. Louis 4 - 1/11/96 - 42nd consecutive start in 42 games by Fuhr”, marking a significant milestone in the Hall of Famer’s storied career. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
These sticks come from the personal collection of Lou Nolan, the legendary voice of the
Philadelphia Flyers. Nolan has been a fixture with the Flyers since the team’s inception in 1967,
starting as a press box assistant before becoming the team’s public address announcer in
1972—a role he’s held ever since. For over five decades, he has been calling plays for Flyers
hockey, his voice guiding us through some of the franchise’s most iconic moments. This of
course includes their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. These sticks,
personally gifted to Nolan by some of the NHL’s biggest legends, reflect the relationships he’s
built over his storied career and the trust and admiration he’s earned within the NHL community.
