Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Known unequivocally as Mr Hockey, Gordie Howe enjoyed an unmatched 32-season pro career that included two and a half decades in the NHL, with his record 23 appearances at the NHL All-Star Game to go forever unchallenged. This signed stick was used by the iconic legend during the mid-1960s, circa 1964-65, when the superstar still dominated the league. A Northland Pro Glass Fused model with stamps from team supplier Olympic, “Howe” is stamped over the upper shaft, with Gordie’s famous “9” handwritten, with the original black tape on the blade and over the handle and knob intact. Howe, along with Bill Gadsby, have both signed the front side of the shaft in black marker, with Howe adding “Mr Hockey” along with a personalization.
The signatures display well with no issues, with heavy game-use to the stick itself including numerous puck marks across the front and reverse blade and lower shaft, with a pair of cracks visible to the blade beneath the tape. There are also a few paint stains on the upper shaft.
