Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
With his 32 seasons of pro hockey to go forever unchallenged, Gordie Howe remains one of the most popular and collected player of all-time despite hanging-up his skate four decades ago. Spending the first twenty-five (25) years of his career wearing the red and white colours of the Detroit Red Wings, leading the Motor City club to a quartet of Stanley Cup championships and racking up numerous individual awards, Howe would be inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972. Offered here, we present this lot consisting of a jersey signed by Howe as well as a framed photograph display signed by him as well. Starting with the jersey, a CCM replica model with brand and size "XL" tagging affixed to the inner collar, CCM and NHL logos appear over the reverse neckline and hem while the front is decorated with a large Red Wings team crest that features embroidered details. Still remaining in new-with-tags condition, the jersey has been styled over the sleeves and verso with Howe's famed number "9" in single layer white tackle twill numerals while "Howe" is spelt out in single layer white letters arched across the upper reverse. Signed by Howe over the "9" on the reverse with a blue marker ink signature that shows some minor bleeding while inscriptions reading "Mr. Hockey" and "H.O.F. 1972" are found above and below in matching ink and condition. Having had a Frozen Pond hologram affixed to the number, a matching COA will accompany. For the framed photo display, measuring out to full dimensions of 15 1/2" x 18 1/2" and featuring an 8" x 10" photo of Howe kneeling beside teammate Terry Sawchuk, the image has been signed by Howe with a bold blue marker signature that displays without issue while a "Mr. Hockey" inscription is seen underneath in matching ink and condition. Sporting a pair of Red Wings lapel pins at the bottom of the piece along with a gold coloured plaque reading "Gordie Howe - Detroit Red Wings - Mr. Hockey", everything is displayed under red and white mattes and contained in a simple black frame that shows just a small amount of wear to the edges and corners from age and display. Having had a Frozen Pond hologram affixed to the bottom right of the image, a matching COA is found affixed to the back of the frame.
