Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

Glenn “Chico” Resch and HOFer Billy Smith shared the New York Islanders’ goaltending duties through the seasons that led to the budding dynasty’s first Stanley Cup win. Resch was traded to the Colorado Rockies late in 1980-81, which is the season he wore this photo-matched gamer that Smith obtained from his teammate in exchange for one of his own game-worn jerseys. Size “50G” is handwritten in ballpoint on the Sandow SK flag tag in the neck of Resch’s No. 1 game-worn jersey. It is matched to a photo from an October 25, 1980 game against Philadelphia by the placement of the sewn-on orange twill “Islanders” lettering at the bottom of the team crest on the front, particularly the very closed bottom of the first “S”. Game wear includes black marks on the front and shoulders and blue paint transfer below the left side of the nameplate. Comes with Billy Smith’s signed LOA.
The photo match also includes the top of the “A” sewn over the toe of the sew-on white twill stick blade, as well as the placement and spacing of the lettering throughout the bottom of the crest.
Sandow SK logo is heat-screened in white vinyl on the right rear tail.
