Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
A product of the QMJHL who would be drafted 107th overall by the Detroit Red Wings at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, Gerard Gallant would go on to play a total of 615 games in the National Hockey League, wearing the jerseys of Detroit and Tampa Bay over that time period before transitioning into coaching and becoming one of the most successful bench bosses of all-time throughout all levels of the game. Offered here, we present this Red Wings jersey signed by Gallant during the 1987-88 season. Made by CCM, a Maska Ultrafil label is affixed to the inner collar while the jersey itself measures out to roughly a size "50". Having had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem and featuring an "EASTSIDE" logo heat screened on over the reverse hem as well in red letters, the front of the jersey is decorated with Detroit's iconic winged wheel team crest that features embroidered details throughout. Sporting the distinguished alternate captain's "A" over the left breast, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Gallant's number "17" in single layer white tackle twill numerals while "Gallant" is spelt out in matching style letters at the top of the reverse that have been sewn directly to the material of the shirt in a gentle arch. Signed by Gallant over the "1" on the reverse with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue, the jersey displays with excellent game-wear including stick marks, board burns, unrepaired cuts/holes and coloured board paint transfers throughout its entirety as well as team repairs over the front, reverse and both sleeves that total out to twelve (12) by our count. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, which also shows good pilling, the jersey is accompanied by an LOA.
