This magnificent 14-karat gold ring commemorates the New Jersey Devils’ first playoff success. Led by captain Kirk Muller, the 1987-88 Devils made the playoffs for the first time in six seasons in New Jersey. They defeated the Islanders in six games and then beat Washington in seven to claim the Patrick Division playoff crown before losing a seven-game conference final to Boston. Presented to forward George McPhee, who scored three goals in five regular season games, this magnificent bauble weighs approximately 36 grams and has a faint "LGB 14K" stamp inside its size 9 1/2 band. A single diamond set in a green stone replaced the original New Jersey Devils team logo on the tableau.
“New Jersey Devils” is spelled out in raised gold letters on the bezel surrounding the tableau. A Devils logo on the left shank has “McPhee” above it and his No. “21” at the bottom. The right shank displays “1988” above the NHL shield, which is surrounded by banners displaying “Patrick Division Playoff Champions” wrapped under the bowl of the Stanley Cup. McPhee, won won the Hobey Baker Award in 1981-82, did not dress for any playoff games for New Jersey in the spring of 1988.
