Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
One of the six expansion franchises granted to begin play at the start of the 1967-68 season, the Oakland Seals would enjoy nine seasons in the Bay Area before relocating to Cleveland in 1976. A product of the Ontario Hockey Association's Toronto Marlboros before turning pro, Gary Jarrett would go on to play a total of 341 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career with the likes of Toronto, Detroit and Oakland/Californias as well as 298 in the World Hockey Association with Cleveland between 1972 and 1976. Offered here, we present this Oakland Seals jersey worn by Jarrett during the 1969-70 season. A durene knit offering made by Wilson, a brand label displaying washing instructions as well as a size "46" designation is still affixed to the interior of the classic tie-neck collar. Decorated over the front of the jersey with an Oakland Seals team crest that features chain-stitched embroidered details throughout its entirety and a bit of fraying over the bottom portion. Void of a fight strap on the interior and accented over the sleeves and verso with Jarrett's number "12" in dual layer green-over-blue tackle twill numerals that have an embroidered white layer between the two (2) layers, the jersey shows game-wear via sitck marks over the lower front, reverse and left sleeve while team repairs grace the right sleeve also. Sporting additional wear via pilling/fraying on the outside of each sleeve, heaviest over the elbows, coloured board paint transfer marks exist as well, found over the inside of the left bicep, over the left elbow, right hip and both the front and reverse hem. Additionally, good pilling is seen throughout the interior. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched to an image of Jarrett taken during Oakland's November 30th, 1969 game against the Detroit Red Wings which shows a match to the red board paint transfer marks seen over the hem of the right hip, with one appearing in the image now largely washed out/faded due to age.
