Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Known for numerous marquee events throughout its long eighty-two (82) game calendar, the National Hockey League puts on various yearly events including the All-Star Game, Winter Classic, Stadium Series and of course, the Stanley Cup Playoffs that culminate with the Stanley Cup Finals. Offered here, we present this collection of thirty-six (36) game and souvenir pucks from various NHL events including the All-Star Game, Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals, Winter Classic and others. Paced by a group of thirteen (13) All-Star Game pucks, present are examples from 1980 (souvenir), 1981 (souvenir paper weight), 1984 (game puck), 1985 (game puck), 1986 (souvenir puck), 1988 (game puck), 1989 (souvenir puck), 1990 (game puck), 1991 (x2 - both game pucks), 1994 (souvenir puck), 1995 (souvenir puck) and 2016 (game puck - new in case). Also including pucks from the Heritage Classic (2003 and 2011 - in cube), Winter Classic (2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016 - all in cases except for 2015, some of which are still factory sealed), Stadium Series (2014 - Los Angeles, Chicago and New York x2 plus 2017 Pittsburgh - all in cases and factory sealed except for the one from 2017), NHL Centennial Season (x4 - 3 with the same logo on both sides and one with the Rangers 90th anniversary logo on one side), 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs (x2 - one Pittsburgh and one New Jersey), 2012 Stanley Cup Finals (Game 3) and finally, the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals (x2 - Game 5). Also including a generic Winnipeg Jets official game puck, all the slugs included appear in good condition or better, showing just light surface and handling wear in some cases that spares the logos of each. Additionally, also accompanying the lot is a group of thirty-three (33) other pucks covering a variety of subjects and years that includes three (3) from the 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame induction night that have been signed by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman with silver marker ink signatures. Majority of these pucks all display well with some handling and surface wear seen throughout that does lightly effect the logos of either side in some cases.
Publishing his first paid hockey article in a New York Rangers game program in 1970 that earned him a total of fifty ($50) dollars, from there, Frank Brown began his career as a journalist for The Associated Press, typically covering the Montreal Canadiens. Under the leadership of Stan Fischler, Brown stated he learned the "courage of my convictions" after being handed Gordie Howe's phone number. Moving on to the New York Daily News in 1980, where he would remain until 1998, when he joined the National Hockey League as a communication executive, a position he would hold with the league until his retirement in 2018. He was awarded the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.
