Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Publishing his first paid hockey article in a New York Rangers game program in 1970 that earned him a total of fifty ($50) dollars, from there, Frank Brown began his career as a journalist for The Associated Press, typically covering the Montreal Canadiens. Under the leadership of Stan Fischler, Brown stated he learned the "courage of my convictions" after being handed Gordie Howe's phone number. Moving on to the New York Daily News in 1980, where he would remain until 1998, when he joined the National Hockey League as a communication executive, a position he would hold with the league until his retirement in 2018. Awarded the 2019 Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame, offered here from his personal collection, we present this grouping of various New York Rangers items including media passes/accreditations, tickets and programs. Perhaps paced by the media pass/accreditation issued to Brown on the night of April 18th, 1999 when Wayne Gretzky played his final National Hockey League game, the collection is largely made up of a group of over fifty (50) Rangers game programs and publications that date as far back as 1951 and as recent as 2009 but consists most of examples hailing from the mid-1960s, late-1960s and early-1970s, including many that are from the 1966-67, 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons which marked the end of the "Original Six" era and first couple years of the "Expansion" era. All featuring many Hockey Hall of Famers and stars within their rosters with many of the included booklets having been scored on their interiors and showcasing other penned doodles throughout the advertisements on the interior as well, many display excellent cover art and sport just light handling wear while some sport heavier wear to the covers, edge/corners and spines that is worth mentioning for accuracy. Also including various Rangers staff/media passes of varying styles and seasons, including the first Rangers home game after the 9/11 attacks in New York City, that mostly all include headshot images of Brown over their fronts, some retain their original lace/lanyard while others don't but all display in overall good condition while showing light, and in some cases moderate, wear from handling/use during the times they were issued for. Finally, the lot concludes with a group of eleven (11) Rangers ticket/ticket stubs from various games played during the 1980s and 1990s.
