Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
A highly decorated Canadian driver bested only by his son’s Formula One World Championship in 1997, Gilles Villeneuve spent six years in Grand Prix racing, winning six races while driving for Ferrari. We have an attractive display that features signatures from Villeneuve along with Ferrari-teammate Rene Arnoux. At approx. 17 ½” x 31 ½”, a metal plaque listing stats for each driver in French has been placed along the center base, with a copy of the July 3rd 1979 issue of Italian magazine “Auto Sprint” inserted along the left, and 1981 Montreal Labatt Grand-Prix souvenir program on right. A 1994 Panini Villeneuve sticker with facsimile signature has also been placed just above the plaque. Both Villeneuve and Arnoux have signed the Auto Sprint cover in black felt pen. A JSA LOA for the signatures will accompany along with a second LOA.
We should note that the signatures are somewhat lighter than could be, most likely from a weak marker. The frame itself also exhibits light wear, with a few scratches to the surface.
