Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Well remembered as the first netminder to regularly don facial protection, Jacques Plante was instrumental in establishing head gear for goaltenders, perfecting models that would be used for years to come. This caramel colored “pretzel” mask, manufactured by Plante's Fibrosport company in Magog Quebec was the first model made by the manufacturer, and it features the original four interior pads present, with the forehead strap detached. Some soiling and rusting to the additional hardware is present, with a number of surface cracks along with some loss of material at the very top portion. There is also what appears to be a serial number, stamped along the inside bridge of the nose.
