Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A veteran of nearly 1400 National Hockey League games since he was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes 2nd overall from the Ontario Hockey League's Peterborough Petes at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Eric Staal has worn the colours of Carolina, New York, Minnesota, Buffalo, Montreal and Florida during his storied career, winning a Stanley Cup in 2006 with the Hurricanes and suiting up in six (6) NHL All-Star Games. Also having won an IIHF World Championship gold medal in 2007 and an Olympic gold medal in 2010, both with Team Canada and making him the 23rd member of the esteemed "Triple Gold Club", offered here is this jersey worn by Staal during the photo-shoot and practice of the 2008 NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta that was hosted by the Thrashers, in which he scored two (2) goals in an 8-7 win for the East over the West. Made by Reebok, a lone size "58" label is affixed to the inner collar while both NHL and Reebok crests have been added over the front and reverse necklines respectively. Also having had the NHLPA emblem embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with an “East” team crest in dual layer tackle twill style with a pair of stars in matching style seen both above and below. Also having had a trio of stars sewn on over each side of the rib cage, the front, sleeves and verso have been styled with Staal's number "12" in dual layer white-over-grey tackle twill numerals while "Staal" has been spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Displaying the all-important 2008 NHL All-Star Game event patch over the left shoulder and a Carolina Hurricanes crest over the right shoulder, the jersey retains its fight strap on the interior and has had a MeiGray label numbered "E10115" sewn inside the reverse hem, which according to the company's Population Report, the piece is a "Red - Eastern Conference All-Star 1/27/08 (Photo Shoot/Practice)" example. Signed by Staal through the "2" on the reverse with a thin black marker ink signature that displays well with just light bleeding, the jersey shows no flaws or obvious signs of use but it is worth noting that light red colour bleed is coming through the numbers on the reverse.
