Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Honoured by the Boston Bruins during the height of his notorious career, a tribute dinner was held for legendary defenseman Eddie Shore at Boston’s Copley Plaza Hotel, on March 6, 1933. Attended by dignitaries and Bruins teammates, we offer a program from the event team-signed by the 1932-33 Bruins and twice-signed by Shore. At 6 ½” x 9” and missing the original ribbon, an approx 5” x 7” photo of the rugged defender has been affixed to the cover, with the guests from the Bruins listed om page 4, and the dinner menu on page 5. Shore has signed the cover in green ink with Art Ross signing beneath in pencil (there is also some green ink near the signature that has been crossed out). The inside front cover has been signed by 16 in either pencil or black fountain pen, with the signatures absolutely gorgeous including from top to bottom Thompson, Hitchman, Owen, Clapper, Galbraith, Stewart, Barry, Oliver, Lamb, Ripley, Beattie, Heximer, Chapman, Smith, Green (trainer) and Frank Ryan (public relations). That's 7 deceased HOFers total! The title page has also been signed by Shore with a flawless dark fountain pen signature along with a lengthy dedication to the presumed original recipient of the program. There are an additional 7 fountain pen signatures to the back cover, with these appearing to be Bruins ticket holders, as each has listed a box or seat number. There is some wear and minor discolouration from age, with a few small lower splits to the spine on the cover and a few interior pages. These are some of the nicest period Bruins signatures that we have ever encountered. An LOA from JSA will accompany.
