Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
This is a fantastic find for goalie mask enthusiasts with a great provenance story linking two New York fan favorites. Hall of Fame goalie Ed Giacomin’s original Ernie Higgins mold for his famous New York Rangers mask was obtained circa 1979 by Islanders goalie Glenn “Chico” Resch, who received it when he went to play a game at Madison Square Garden. It was gifted to Resch by the Rangers trainer, who knew that Chico collected hockey memorabilia. The plaster mold, with “GIA” handwritten on the forehead, remains intact as it was used by Higgins to form Giacomin’s iconic fiberglass mask, a style he used for the rest of his HOF career with the Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. Comes with Chico Resch’s signed LOA.
