Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
HOF goalie Ed Belfour’s first season with the Toronto Maple Leafs displays his trademark eagles on each side and his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design over the chin. Getty Images #53121530 offers the photo-match to the black burn marks on the left ear side strap. The big chip on the back lower corner on the right ear side strap is photo-matched to Getty Images #52334938. The big chip on the chin appears in a number of Getty Images photos but it was smaller in size than it is currently. “Custom Made by Gary E. Warwick Ed Belfour Toronto Maple Leafs 2002-2003” notation is handwritten in gold paint pen adjacent to the Warwick Custom Mask Inc. label inside the right ear. Comes with Belfour signed LOA and its carrying bag, which has a broken zipper.
The back head-piece has custom graphics showcasing a 1941 Willys for Ed’s racing company, named after his hometown of Carman, Manitoba. The dual-colour strapping coincides with the placement of the custom graphics. Interior padding is present including added velcro for the cloth forehead accessory, which is not included. “Bishop Custom Designs” label signed and dated “2002” by Ray Bishop is inside the left ear. Gold paint pen notation inside the left chin reads “2 lbs 3 ozs. Shell #3 7/26/02”.
