Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Straight off a memorable Stars Cup win in 1999, we have Ed Belfour’s custom-crafted Warwick goalie mask that’s been photo-matched to the 2000 playoffs and finals! The interior padding is present including added velcro for cloth forehead accessory, and dual-colour strapping to coincide with the placement of the custom graphics. The manufacturer’s labels remain affixed on the inside chin section, with added handwritten “99/2000 Finals”, and “Ed Belfour 20” over it in gold. Ed’s Trademark eagles grace each side, with his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design over the chin. The back head-piece has custom graphics showcasing a 1941 Willys for Ed’s racing company, named after his Carman Manitoba hometown. In gorgeous condition, the mask exhibits a few tiny chips to edges, as well as a chip on the chin section’s graphics. An LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany this mask.
As previously mentioned, this mask has been photo-matched. 6 different images show matches, including Getty images 72474690 and 7255598 from the April 21st 2000 Western Conference Quarterfinals at Reunion Arena in Dallas Texas. Dallas won Game five 3-2 and took the series 4-1. Both these images show matches by the placement of the additional pairs of holes on each side of the cage. With the correct model cage for the 2000 playoffs, Ed alternated between this dark green mask and a green/gold mask during the playoffs and finals and wore this one in at least 6 games we have photos of, including game #6 of the Finals on June 10th. The mask will also be accompanied by its original carrying case, made by Warwick custom goalie masks in Port Huron Michigan.
