Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The fifth and final installment of the famed Canada Cup, 1991 saw the fourth victory for Team Canada as they defeated the US, in the tournaments only all-North American final. This Team Canada jersey was worn by Ed Belfour during the tournament, and it’s been photo-matched. With Maska Air-Knit and size tagging in the collar, an additional embroidered CCM patch sits on the bottom hem. Fashioned with tackle twill numbers and rubberized team crest, the Labatt’s Canada Cup sponsors crest remains affixed over the right breast. Notable game-wear includes just a single black mark on the lower portion of the team crest. An LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany.
As mentioned, this garment has been photo-matched. Four different on-ice photos have been matched to the aforementioned black mark on the lower portion of the team crest, and all four photos are from the final game of the tournament. We should also point out that although Belfour didn't start any games, he was with the Team Canada squad throughout the series and was a back-up to tournament MVP Bill Ranford, including in the tournament-clinching game, and he would have worn this jersey in warm-ups before the game and as the back-up during the games.
