Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Always a Leaf to Maple Leafs fans, HOFer Doug Gilmour was in the visiting Chicago Black Hawks lineup when Toronto hosted its final game at Maple Leaf Gardens on February 13, 1999. Doug scored the first goal of the game and added an assist in Chicago’s 6-2 win to close out the Mecca of Hockey. The Gardens’ closing marked the end of an era for the Maple Leafs, who called it home from its opening for the 1931-32 season. The Leafs moved to the Air Canada Centre and hosted the Montreal Canadiens in their first game there on February 20, 1999. Gilmour has signed each of the two programs displayed in this magnificent framed display representing the Maple Leafs transition from their fabled old home, MLG, to their new digs at the ACC. ‘Killer’ placed a bold black marker autograph on the cover of the limited edition program from the final game at Maple Leaf Gardens mounted in a blue matte on the left side of the 25” x 27” frame, and he placed his autograph in fine gold paint pen on the cover of a program from the Leafs’ first game at Air Canada Centre. ‘The Maple Leaf Forever’ reads a plaque inset at the top, which has pins for the last game at MLG and the first game at ACC on either side of it, each inset above their respective programs. Insets at the bottom feature plaques noting each arena’s name, the two teams, and the date of the games, with pins of each team inset on either side of the plaques beneath the signed programs. Also featured is a Gilmour signed Black Hawks jersey, which Doug has signed in black marker at the top of the “9” on the back. Starter size XL tagging is in the back of the neck. Comes with a JSA Auction LOA.
