Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Before he became a trusted two-way winger on one of hockey’s most legendary teams, Don
Marshall was just a local kid from Verdun who dreamed of wearing the Bleu Blanc Rouge. That
dream came true in 1954 when he suited up for the Canadiens for the very first time, marking
the start of a long, steady NHL career he never looked back from. Early on, Marshall became a
key depth piece during the Canadiens’ dominant dynasty years, playing a smart, reliable game.
Most impressively, he won five Stanley Cups in his first six seasons. He would go on to play
over 1,000 NHL games, later suiting up for the Rangers, Leafs, and Sabres, though he’d never
lift the Cup again. Still, Marshall’s legacy is forever tied to one of the most dominant eras in
hockey history, a local kid who made good and left his mark on the game in his hometown.
On display is a game-used CCM stick from Marshall’s time with the Montreal Canadiens in the
mid-1950s. It retains its original tape jobs on both the knob and blade, with a few strands
missing on the blade. Just below the knob is a faded stamp
that reads “Custom Made for Marshall,” with the “Marshall” portion nearly worn away. The shaft
features CCM stamps on both sides and shows typical game wear from the era: prominent puck
marks mostly on the lower shaft and blade. The blue accent stripes near the bottom are partially
worn off, and a noticeable age crack runs along the blade, a common trait from sticks from this
era.
