Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
Enjoying a four (4) year college career in the NCAA with the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Don Jackson would be selected by both the NHL's Minnesota North Stars (39th overall) and WHA's Calgary Cowboys (91st overall) in each league's respective 1976 Entry Drafts. Choosing to go the route of the National Hockey League, Jackson would go on to play a total of 315 games in the league with the likes of Minnesota, Edmonton and New York between 1977-78 and 1986-87, hoisting Lord Stanley's mug with the Oilers on a pair of occasions in 1984 and 1985. Offered here, we present this Oilers jersey worn by Jackson during the 1982-83 season. A mesh constriction garment made by a company called Athletic Supply that sports Nike branding screened-on over the reverse hem, a small white size "XL" fly tag is affixed to the inner collar. Decorated over the front with a familiar Oilers team crest in flight satin twill that also features embroidered details as well, the Universiade '83 patch, an event hosted by the City of Edmonton that year, is sewn on top of the right shoulder. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Jackson's number "29" in stacked tri-layer flight satin twill numerals with the white coloured layer embroidered, "Jackson" is spelt out in single layer blue flight satin letters across the affixed matching mesh nameplate that runs from shoulder-to-shoulder across the upper reverse. Retaining a loop style fight strap on the interior, the jersey exhibits good game-wear throughout its entirety including stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, light board burns over both sleeves, a yellow coloured paint transfer over the left forearm, small unrepaired holes over both sleeves, a small unrepaired hole over the lower reverse and no fewer than nine (9) team repairs through the front and both sleeves, the interior of the jersey also features good pilling near the elbows. Accompanied by an LOA, the jersey has been photo-matched to an image of Jackson taken during the season which shows a match to the placement of the oil drop at the top of the team crest in terms of how close it is to the blue border and to the pattern of the mesh holes inside the bottom portion of the "9" on the right sleeve.
